AFC President sends best wishes to teams, officials ahead of Asian Qualifiers
Manama: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has wished all competing teams as well as the Continent’s match officials the very best of luck ahead of the second round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 which kicks off on Thursday.
The AFC President said: “On behalf of the AFC and the Asian football family, I wish all our teams and match officials the very best of luck in their campaigns for the Asian Qualifiers.
“There is so much anticipation around the world and the focus of world football for the next few years is clearly on Asia as the FIFA World Cup returns to Asia for only the second time.
“The Asian Qualifiers exemplifies our commitment to provide top-level competitions to showcase the undeniable talent that exists on our great Continent. The competition is now more inclusive, and I am confident that we will witness a captivating nine months of thrilling action.”

Reigning AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar, Uzbekistan and India are among 32 nations set to feature on the opening day, with Guam and Maldives facing off in the Asian Qualifiers’ first match at the Guam FA National Training Center in Dededo at 3:30pm local time.
Shaikh Salman added: “Teams from all across the five AFC zones are represented, some will be experiencing the excitement and drama for the very first time.
“I am confident that our teams, players and fans will showcase the passion and spirit of Asian football and uphold the values of fair play and sportsmanship.”
