First FIFA-AFC-Asian Zonal Associations meeting held
Kuala Lumpur: The inaugural meeting between FIFA, AFC and the Asian Zonal Associations concluded at the AFC House on Friday.
AFC General Secretary Dato’ Windsor John, in his opening address, said: “I am pleased to note the five AFC Regional Associations have been working closely with FIFA and the AFC to provide more Member Associations with opportunities to compete in top-level tournaments.
“Since 2017, Asia has staged 24 youth and women competitions, benefitting 43 Members from across the five regions.

“And to forge a closer partnership, the AFC is currently in the process of ensuring the Statutes of the Regional Associations are aligned with the AFC and FIFA.
“The strong links between our Regional Associations and our Member Associations provide for a true partnership - all committed to the shared goals and outcomes.”
Four representatives from the FIFA Regional Office Development, along with eight delegates from the five AFC Regional Associations, reviewed the FIFA Forward Programme - a tailor made support for football development - which was later replaced by the FIFA Forward 2.0 that came into effect on January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2022.
FIFA representatives further discussed the updated 2.0 Regulations, emphasising its beneficial support and impact, while the Regional Associations shared on their experiences and challenges after organising various youth and women tournaments.
