MAs awarded AFC Grassroots Charter Memberships
Kuala Lumpur: Three Member Associations were granted AFC Grassroots Charter Memberships following their outstanding achievements in the development of football.
The Silver Membership was awarded to the Jordan Football Association (JFA), while Vietnam Football Federation ((VFF) and the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) were given Bronze Memberships.
The AFC Grassroots Charter is a development tool with the aim of raising the quality of grassroots programmes across the Continent. It identifies 20 performance categories such as grassroots competitions, fairplay, partnerships and personal development.

Jordan Football Federation
JFA covers grassroots football in all the three main provinces and 14 governorates in Jordan through 50 Prince Ali Grassroots Centres with more than 100 qualified coaches, volunteers and coordinators to take care of the programmes.
JFA organises amateur competitions for different age categories every year - both male and female.
A total 144 clubs are involved in the youth leagues with approximately 4,320 players while 63 clubs are involved in the adult amateur leagues with 1,890 players. JFA organises various competitions in futsal and beach soccer as well.
JFA has a constant partnership with the Ministry of Education in human resources, fields and logistics. They also forged a collaboration with the Jordan Sport Federation for the corporate sector, Jordan Paralympic Committee, and the German Organisation for Development, which supports JFA’s grassroots football programmes.
JFA is active in social activities through football in the centres, as well as collaboration with several social agents such as the National Centre for Disabled, SOS Children’s Villages Jordan. JFA Cerebral Palsy Grassroots Centre has more than 60 children and adults playing football under the Jordan Paralymic Committee.
Apart from regular grassroots activities and competitions in the centres, JFA organises many promotional events including festivals during the AFC Grassroots Day, World Refugee Day and United Nations Day.
JFA conducts coach education courses at grassroots level, such as D Coaching License courses, to provide opportunities for those who wish to participate in training courses at the centres. JFA annually conduct courses for grassroots educators in various regions in Jordan.
Vietnam Football Federation
VFF spends around USD24,000 on grassroots annually and its affiliated members have fostered a good working relationship with theVietnam Sports Administration, Ministry of Tourism-Sports and Culture through grassroots projects such as Football For All in Vietnam (FFAV).
More than 18,000 participants attend FFAV activities annually. Approximately 10,000 people participated in grassroots football events which saw 56 teams taking part. While 1,110 participants were involved in the regular grassroots competitions.
VFF has organised three AFC 'C' Coaching Course since 2017 and has also held two VFF ‘D’ license courses in 2015.
VFF frequently updates grassroots information on its website and is seeking three ambassadors in to represent the North, Central and South provinces.
Football Association of Malaysia
FAM has earmarked grassroots football as one of its priorities for the development of the game and with, the Grassroots Plan, philosophy and structure were put in motion.
With a variety of grassroots programmes in place and with the Ministry of Education (MoE), KidZania Sport and Astro Kem Bola Club and Grassroots Ambassadors coming on board as partners, the future of grassroots football looks promising for FAM.
The girls’ football programmes has also seen a boost in participation with four different grassroots football activities. National women’s futsal player, Intan Sarah Anisah Zulgafli is the female MA Grassroots Ambassador, which could bring greater influence with girls to play the game.
The social schemes for the disadvantaged groups, coach education, funding and facilities for the grassroots programmes are also well taken care of by FAM.
