Mongolia progress to Qualifiers Round 2
Ulaanbaatar: Mongolia advanced to the 2019 East Asian Football Federation (EAFF) Cup Round 2 Qualifiers after finishing as the group winners in Round 1.
Mongolia opened their campaign with an impressive 4-1 win over Macau on Matchday One before beating Northern Mariana Island 9-0 in the following tie.
However, Guam proved to be their toughest challenge in their final match on Thursday as the deadlock continued well into the second half.
Karl Dennis Dodd’s Guam took the lead in the 89th minute but Norjmoo Tsedenbal’s goal in the dying embers of the match salvaged Mongolia a point and a place in the next round.
Mongolia finished with seven points, followed by Macau and Guam on four points with Northern Mariana Islands at the bottom of the group.
Michael Weiss’ side will travel to Chinese Taipei for Round 2 of the Qualifiers in November, where they will face the hosts in their opener before taking on DPR Korea and Hong Kong.
Only the group winner from Round 2 will progress to the 2019 EAFF Cup Finals in Korea Republic.
