Chongqing: AFC Women’s Asian Cup-bound China PR salvaged a draw after being 2-0 down at half time, with Wang Shanshan providing a second-half brace at the CFA International Women’s Football Tournament in Yongchuan, Chongqing.
Fresh from her own two-goal performance against China, Brazilian star Marta took her tournament tally to four, when she gave her team the lead from the penalty spot after 30 minutes.
The South Americans doubled their advantage just two minutes later, when Adriana was on hand to drive the ball low into the bottom right hand corner, after Korea Republic-based Bia Zaneratto had tied the Chinese defence in knots with her footwork.
The eight-time Asian champions set about mounting a comeback, and pulled a goal back through Wang Shanshan, who was set up by Wang Shuang in the 54th minute.
China were level six minutes later, when goalkeeper Barbara was caught in possession by the predatory Wang Shanshan, who dispossessed the Brazilian custodian and slotted the ball into the empty net for her third goal of the tournament.
The hosts nearly completed a stirring win, but Wang Shuang was denied by the crossbar in the dying moments, as Brazil claimed the title on seven points.
China, who finished third on four points, will play their next two matches away to Australia in late November – just weeks before the AFC Women’s Asian Cup draw.
