Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has sent his condolences to the Bahrain Football Association (BFA) and the family and friends of former Bahrain coach Abdulaziz Ameen who passed away on Friday.
The AFC President said: “On behalf of the whole Asian football family, please accept my heartfelt sympathies and condolences on the passing of Abdulaziz Ameen.
“Ameen will be remembered for leading Bahrain to one of its greatest achievements in world youth football and his passion towards developing the Continent’s brightest young talents.
“We have lost a true servant of Asian football and we will always cherish his incredible contributions to the game,” added Shaikh Salman.
Ameen coached a host of domestic clubs including Al Najma, Busaiteen and East Riffa, but his crowning moment came in 1989 when he led Bahrain to a fourth-place finish at the FIFA U-16 World Cup after beating Brazil in the Quarter-finals in Scotland.
The thoughts and prayers of the AFC and the rest of the Asian football community are with the loved ones and friends of Ameen, BFA and the Bahrain football family during this difficult time.
