East Asia Wrap: FC Seoul, Shao Jiang crowned champions; Chengdu made to wait

Hong Kong: FC Seoul were crowned K League 1 champions with five matches to spare, ending a decade-long wait while Shao Jiang secured the Macau title.

Chengdu Rongcheng's Chinese Super League title celebrations were delayed following defeat to Dalian Yingbo, while FC Machida Zelvia and FC Tokyo remained level at the J1 League summit.

Yangon: Kasuka FC saved their best for last after they handed New Taipei City Hang Yuan FC a 2-1 defeat in their concluding AFC Challenge League 2026/27™ Group E tie on Saturday.

The defeat was a blow for Hang Yuan as only a victory would have taken them into the quarter-finals, with both teams exiting with three points each.

Samarinda: Tainan City FC booked their place in the knockout stage of the AFC Challenge League 2026/27™ following a 1-1 draw with Yangon United in their Group D tie on Saturday.

The result meant both sides ended with a point each, with Chinese Taipei’s Tainan advancing due to a superior goal difference. Borneo FC Samarinda topped the group with a maximum six points.

Yangon: Manila Digger FC stayed on course for a spot in the knockout stage following a 1-1 draw with New Taipei City Hang Yuan FC  in their AFC Challenge League 2026/27™ Group E tie at the Thuwunna Football Stadium on Wednesday. 

The stalemate moved Manila Digger to four points and they will need to beat Shan United FC on Saturday for top spot, while Hang Yuan take on Kasuka.

Samarinda: Borneo FC Samarinda staged a brilliant comeback to seal their place in the AFC Challenge League 2026/27™ knockout stage after defeating Tainan City FC 3-1 on Wednesday.

With maximum points from two matches, the win confirmed top spot in Group D for the Indonesian club with Chinese Taipei’s Tainan City battling it out with Yangon United of Myanmar on Saturday for the other quarter-final spot.

Kuala Lumpur: Japan remain Asia’s highest-ranked side in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Tuesday.

Korea Republic and Chinese Taipei climbed two spots to 17th and 38th respectively, while Indonesia were Asia’s biggest movers.

Tokyo: Chengdu Rongcheng saw their advantage at the top of the Chinese Super League reduced to six points, while Sanfrecce Hiroshima, FC Machida Zelvia and FC Tokyo moved level at the J1 League summit.

FC Seoul's march to the K League 1 title suffered a minor setback, North District moved top in Hong Kong, China while Kaohsiung Attackers and FC Ulaanbaatar continued to lead the way in Chinese Taipei and Mongolia respectively.

Yangon: Shan United fought back from a goal down to force a 1-1 stalemate with New Taipei City Hang Yuan FC in their AFC Challenge League 2026/27™ Group E opener on Sunday.

After a listless opening half, Hang Yuen went in front through Lin Hai-cheng, only for Thet Wai Moe to rescue a point for the Myanmar side.

Shan United will face Brunei Darussalam’s Kasuka FC next on Wednesday, while Hang Yuen meet Manila Digger FC of the Philippines.

Kuala Lumpur: The lineup for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2027™ was finalised following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

Only the eight group winners advanced to join the quartet of teams that qualified directly as the top four finishers from 2026: defending champions DPR Korea, runners-up Japan, and semi-finalists Australia and China PR.

Qualifiers - Group C: Chinese Taipei 6-0 Laos

Vientiane: Chinese Taipei pipped Laos to a berth at the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2027™ with a commanding 6-0 win in their Qualifiers Group C match on Sunday.

Cheng Ya-Hsun’s side won both their group fixtures, scoring 18 goals and conceding none while Laos ended their campaign in second after beating Cambodia 3-1 in their opener.

Vientiane: Chinese Taipei breezed to a 12-0 win over Cambodia in their opening Group C tie of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2027™ Qualifiers on Monday. 

Chang Yu-Hsin led with six goals as the East Asian began their quest for a second straight Finals appearance and their sixth overall.
