Casas pleased tweaks worked for Iraq; Shin proud of Indonesia’s improvement

Manila: Head coach Jesus Casas said learnings from the first meeting against Philippines paved the way for a 5-0 success on Tuesday that saw Iraq qualify for the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ and reach the third Round 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Needing a late goal to secure a home win in Basra on Thursday, it was a completely different scenario at Rizal Memorial Stadium as Iraq raced to a 3-0 first half lead in a commanding performance which took them to a perfect 12 points.

Hanoi: Indonesia defeated Vietnam 3-0 in their Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ match at My Dinh Stadium on Tuesday.

Shin Tae-yong orchestrated Indonesia’s first win on Vietnamese soil since 2004 thanks to an impressive first half display, giving them a four-point advantage over their Southeast Asian rivals in Group F with two matchdays remaining.

Basra:Jesus Casas was delighted to see Iraq come through a tough test after they beat Philippines 1-0 in the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ to secure their third win on the trot in Group F.

Mohanad Ali struck the winner in the 84th minute against a disciplined Philippines side playing for the first time under new head coach Tom Saintfiet with Casas proud of how his charges navigated a difficult situation.

Jakarta: Indonesia revived their chances of progression after a 1-0 win over Vietnam in their Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Group F match on Thursday.

The victory, a repeat of the same scoreline from their encounter at the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023™, took the Garudas to four points, one ahead of their Southeast Asian rivals with the two to meet again in Hanoi on Tuesday.
