Singapore: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has expressed his deep sadness over the death of former Legal Adviser to the AFC Executive Committee, Nadesan Ganesan of Singapore, on Wednesday.
Former Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Chairman and lawyer, Ganesan had served as Legal Adviser to the AFC Executive Committee in the 1998-2002 and 2002-2006 cycles.
The Singapore football icon was also at the helm of the FAS from 1974 to 1981, a period that saw Singapore win two Malaysia Cups (1977 and 1980).
He also formulated a major breakthrough in the Singapore National Football League, revamping it from 118 clubs to a strong 30, and launched the Lion City Cup, an U-16 tournament that unearthed budding talents such as Fandi Ahmad and V. Sundramoorthy.
The thoughts and prayers of the AFC, the Football Association of Singapore and the rest of the Asian football fraternity are with the family and friends of Ganesan.
