ASEAN Wrap: Wanderers derail Sydney; Buriram unshaken

Kuala Lumpur: It was a compelling week across ASEAN as Western Sydney Wanderers halted Sydney FC’s early-season charge in Australia, while Buriram United reinforced their dominance in Thailand with another assured display at the top of the table.

In the Philippines, One Taguig continued to operate at a different level, cruising to another emphatic victory to remain firmly in control of the title race.

Borneo FC finally saw their perfect run come to an end in Indonesia, KL City strengthened their credentials as Malaysia’s closest challengers and Shan United maintained their pursuit of Yangon with another convincing win in Myanmar.

Qualifiers - Group G: Syria 2-2 Myanmar; Oman 4-0 Afghanistan

Yangon: Myanmar held off a late fightback from Syria to advance to the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ following a 2-2 stalemate in their concluding  Qualifiers Group G tie on Sunday.

Myanmar finished with 10 points, one ahead of Oman with Syria a further two adrift to seal a return to the Finals for the first time since 2006.

Qualifiers - Group G: Myanmar 2-0 Oman; Afghanistan 2-0 Nepal

Yangon: Myanmar assumed control in Group G of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers after defeating Oman 2-0 at Thuwunna Stadium on Friday.

The win sees Myanmar open a three-point gap on Oman as the Southeast Asian side seek a return to the Finals for the first time since 2006.

In the other match, Afghanistan secured a 2-0 win against Nepal to also move up to six points, three adrift of Myanmar.

Yangon: Myanmar registered the second win of their campaign after cruising 4-0 past Nepal in their AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers Group G tie on Monday.

Oman, meanwhile, revived their hopes with a 3-1 defeat of Syria.

Kuala Lumpur: It was another action-packed week across ASEAN as Sydney FC climbed to the top of the A-League while Buriram United delivered a five-goal masterclass in Thailand.

Yangon: Myanmar led from start to finish to clinch a 3-1 victory over Afghanistan in their AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Group G opener on Saturday.

Syria also enjoyed a winning start, overcoming a spirited Nepal to secure a 4-2 victory.

Yangon: DPR Korea’s Naegohyang Women’s FC produced a sparkling performance to defeat ISPE WFC of Myanmar 3-0 in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2025/26 match on Saturday to seal their place in the quarter-finals.

The win ensured Naegohyang finished second in Group C on six points, one behind Japan’s Tokyo Verdy Beleza while ISPE ended their campaign with a third straight defeat.

Yangon: Song Ji-yoon was delighted to have come off from the bench to deliver a sparkling performance to steer Suwon FC Women to a 5-0 win over ISPE WFC in their AFC Women’s Champions League 2025/26 Group C opener on Sunday.

Introduced in the 52nd minute to replace the injured Yoon Su-jeon, Song made an immediate impact, scoring twice to help the Korea Republic into pole position, ahead of Japan's Tokyo Verdy Beleza on goal difference.
