Final draw: All you need to know

Kuala Lumpur: The Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be held on Friday and it promises to be a spectacular affair.

The expanded 48-team tournament - up from the 32-nation field that competed at the FIFA World Cup 2022 - will be played across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 next year.

Kuala Lumpur: Japan earned their second win over Canada in four days, with Mina Tanaka’s first half strike giving them a 1-0 win at Nagasaki Stadium on Tuesday.

Australia, meanwhile, also defeated New Zealand for a second time, winning 2-0.

Tehran: Esteghlal FC took over the lead in the Iran Pro League while defending champions Tractor SC moved up the standings with their first win in three fixtures.

Newly-crowned champions Neftchi Fergana closed the 2025 Uzbekistan Super League by falling to relegated Khorezm Urgench while defending champions Mohammedan SC had mixed fortunes in the Bangladesh Football Premier League.

Qualifiers - Group D: IR Iran 1-2 India; Chinese Taipei 1-3 Palestine

Ahmedabad: India qualified for the  AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Islamic Republic of Iran in their final Qualifiers Group D tie on Sunday.

The hosts finished level on seven points with Iran but advanced on the head-to-head ratio as they booked a fourth consecutive appearance at the Finals. 

Palestine ended their campaign earlier on Sunday with a 3-1 win against Chinese Taipei.

Pasig: Islamic Republic of Iran’s FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025 campaign came to an end after Italy produced a second half fightback to win their Group D tie 3-1 on Sunday.

Iran finished third, three points adrift of Italy, who will face Portugal in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Ahmedabad: Islamic Republic of Iran came from behind to defeat Palestine 3-1 in their AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers Group D tie on Friday.

Lebanon concluded their campaign with a 2-0 win against India, their first of the campaign but their haul of six points is one behind Iran as they exited the competition.

Shahr-E-Qods:  Al Wasl FC earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Esteghlal FC on Wednesday to book their berth in the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League Two™ 2025/26.

The stalemate took the United Arab Emirates side to 11 points, confirming them as the Group A winners with a match to spare while Esteghlal will slug it out with Bahrain’s Al Muharraq SC to determine who also advances.

Ahmedabad: Lebanon fought back to secure a 1-1 draw with Islamic Republic of Iran in their AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Qualifiers Group D tie on Wednesday.

Hosts India secured their first win after fighting back to beat Chinese Taipei 3-1.

Pasig: Islamic Republic of Iran bounced back into contention at the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025 after securing a 6-2 win against Panama on Wednesday.

Iran will next take on Italy on Saturday, with the top two teams in the group to advance to the knockout stage.

Isfahan: Foolad Mobarakeh Sepahan SC scored late to defeat Al Hussein 2-0  in their AFC Champions League Two™ 2025/26 Group C tie on Tuesday.

With both having already confirmed their Round of 16 spots prior to the match, the win propelled the Islamic Republic of Iran side to the top of the standings on seven points - one ahead of Jordan's Al Hussein who have a final fixture against FC Ahal of Turkmenistan on December 23.

Qarshi: Head coach Dragan Skocic was pleased to see Tractor FC edge closer to the next stage after their gritty 1-0 defeat of PFC Nasaf in their AFC Champions League Elite™ 2025/26 tie on Monday.

The victory - the third of the campaign for the Islamic Republic of Iran side - saw them move up to 11 points in the West Zone with Skocic hailing the resilience shown by unbeaten Tractor under difficult conditions at Markaziy Stadium.
