#WAC2026 attendance crosses 200,000 mark

Sydney: As the Quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ concluded on Sunday, the Continental showpiece recorded another historic milestone as total attendance for the ongoing edition surpassed an impressive 200,000 spectators.

The last eight tie between Japan and Philippines at Stadium Australia took the total attendance up to 223,112, with the landmark moment coming a day after the competition celebrated its 400th match in history on Saturday when Korea Republic defeated Uzbekistan 6-0 in the third Quarter-final.

The Philippines, meanwhile, will battle against Uzbekistan in Thursday’s playoff to make their second consecutive appearance in the global showpiece.

Sydney: Son Hwa-yeon answered the call emphatically when needed as she sparked Korea Republic to a 6-0 win against Uzbekistan in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ quarter-final on Saturday.

Originally listed as a substitute, Son had to start after Jeon Yu-gyeong suffered an injury in the warm-up, with the former opening the scoring in the ninth minute as Korea Republic not only advanced to the semi-finals but also booked their place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027.

Perth: It needed a moment of brilliance to break down a resolute Chinese Taipei side and Shao Ziqin duly delivered as China PR won their AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ quarter-final 2-0 at the Perth Rectangular Stadium on Saturday. 

Despite having dominated, China PR were forced into an additional 30 minutes but finally got the goal their positive play deserved when Ziqin collected Wang Shuang’s neat layoff and floated the ball beyond Chinese Taipei keeper Cheng Ssu-Yu four minutes in.

The evergreen Ji ran the show as the East Asian side powered to a 6-0 win against Uzbekistan in their quarter-final tie at Stadium Australia, with the victory also confirming their ticket to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027. 

The 35-year-old capped her performance with a wonderful goal following a flowing team move in the 72nd minute.

Perth: Head coach Prasobchoke Chokemor urged his players to hold their heads high despite Chinese Taipei’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ journey coming to an end on Saturday.

The East Asian side fell 2-0 to China PR after taking the defending champions to extra time at the Perth Rectangular Stadium, with Prasobchoke saying his players can be proud of their performance and to not consider that their mission was over, with qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 still within reach.
