Malaysia edge Lebanon to win Merdeka Tournament

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia lifted the 2024 Merdeka Tournament after a 1-0 win over Lebanon on Sunday, their first win over a West Asian side since 2014.

Syria, meanwhile, will play India in the Intercontinental Cup 2024 final on Monday after defeating Mauritius.

Group D: Kitchee SC (HKG) 1-0 Royal Thimphu College FC (BHU)

Thimphu: Fu Chui Man’s first half goal steered Hong Kong’s Kitchee SC to a 1-0 win over Royal Thimphu College FC of Bhutan in their AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group D tie at the Changlimithang Stadium on Wednesday.

The victory means Kitchee will face Bam Khatoon of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday to decide the group winners, while Royal Thimphu College’s campaign comes to an end after two consecutive defeats.

Central & South Asia Wrap: Sepahan take pole; Nasaf tighten grip

Tashkent: Sepahan FC were the big winners on Matchday 2 of the Iran Pro League as they moved two points clear at the top of the standings.

In Uzbekistan, FC Nasaf stayed firmly in charge of the title race after back-to-back wins while Abdysh-Ata Kant beat closest rivals FC Dordoi Bishkek in the Kyrgyz League.

Thimphu: Islamic Republic of Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC came from behind to defeat Royal Thimphu College FC of Bhutan 2-1 in their opening AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 Preliminary Stage Group D tie on Sunday.

Ritu Porna Chakma put the hosts ahead but Bam Khatoon fought back through efforts from Mona Hamoudi and Shahnaz Jafari as they boosted their hopes of progressing to the group stage.

Sharma applauds Paro’s fighting spirit

Kathmandu: Paro FC head coach Puspalal Sharma praised his team’s determination after they fought back from a goal down to defeat Nepal’s Church Boys United 2-1 on Tuesday, securing their place in the AFC Challenge League™ 2024/25 group stage.

Paro fell behind to Laken Limbu’s 38th-minute strike but the Bhutanese side quickly recovered with Kinga Wangchuk equalising just a minute later before the game was decided in the 66th minute when William Opoku capitalised on a defensive lapse to score the winner.

Kathmandu: Bhutan’s Paro FC came back from a goal down to seal a 2-1 win over Church Boys United of Nepal in the AFC Challenge League™ Preliminary Stage 1 tie on Tuesday.

Paro’s Kinga Wangchuk cancelled Laken Limbu’s opener before William Opoku struck the winner in the 66th minute to send the Bhutanese side through to the group stage.

It was Paro’s eighth consecutive victory and they sit pretty at the top of the table with 28 points from 10 matches.

The victory took Thimphu to 23 points from 10 matches, two short of Paro.

In other matches, Transport United went on a goal spree, winning 7-3 against Samtse.
