#AFCU17 Qualifying groups decided

Kuala Lumpur: The draw for the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ 2025 Qualifiers was finalised at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The 43 teams were divided into 10 groups - seven of four each and three of five - with the Qualifiers to be played between October 19 and 27, 2024.

The 10 group winners and five best second-placed teams will advance to the Finals, with Saudi Arabia scheduled to host the tournament.

Central & South Asian Wrap: Arkadag lift Turkmenistan Cup

Arkadag: The Turkmenistan Cup has new champions after FC Arkadag beat Ahal FC to lift the trophy at their first attempt to secure their second major honour of the 2023 season.

In the Iran Pro League, the race remained as tight as ever with Esteghlal FC, Sepahan FC and Persepolis FC only separated by four points at the top of the standings after a busy week.

Isfahan: Sepahan SC showed that they mean business after a solid win against Foolad enabled them to cut two points off Esteghlal FC’s lead in the Iran Pro League.

Over in Tajikistan, recently crowned champions FC Istiklol closed out their season with two wins while FC Arkadag’s search for perfection in the Turkmenistan Yokary Liga continues.

Group D: Maziya end campaign on high note

Male: Maldives’ Maziya Sports & Recreation wrapped up their AFC Cup™ 2023/24 campaign on a winning note as they defeated India’s Mohun Bagan Super Giant 1-0 in their final Group D outing at National Stadium on Monday. 

A Hassan Raif stunner gave Maziya the breakthrough in the 40th minute and that goal proved to be the difference between the two teams, despite Mohun Bagan trying to find a way back into the game for much of the second half.

Central & South Asia Wrap: Istiklol champions again; Arkadag secure title

Dushanbe: FC Istiklol are confirmed as Tajikistan Higher League champions with two games to spare, extending their incredible hold on the league title they have won every season since 2014.

The league title was also won in Turkmenistan as FC Arkadag continued to be perfect, their 21st win of the season giving them an unassailable lead over Altyn Asyr.

Group D: Bashundhara Kings (BAN) 2-1 Maziya Sports & Recreation (MDV)

Dhaka: Miguel Figueira’s stunning late winner saw Bangladesh’s Bashundhara Kings come from a goal down to defeat Maziya Sports & Recreation of the Maldives 2-1 in Group D of the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 on Monday and remain in pole position to advance to the Inter-Zone semi-finals.

Maziya opened the scoring inside 10 minutes through Regan Obeng and held the lead until the 80th minute when Boburbek Yuldashov headed in the equaliser.
 
Brazilian Figueira’s decisive strike in the 88th minute then ensured Bashundhara will head into their final group game in two weeks’ time on top of the standings, while Maziya have now been eliminated.

Termez: Pakhtakor FC wrapped up the 2023 Uzbekistan Super League title on Friday after Navbahor slipped up at Olympic, as the Lions emerged champions for the 16th time.

In the Indian Super League, a third straight win for Kerala Blasters saw them climb to the top spot.

Male: Odisha FC of India came from two goals down to defeat Maldives’ Maziya Sports & Recreation 3-2 in Group D of the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 on Tuesday.

The win kept Odisha’s hopes of advancing to the Inter-Zone Semi-finals alive while the defeat leaves Maziya on the ropes.

Round 1: Fahim strike secures Bangladesh’s ticket

Dhaka: Bangladesh claimed a 2-1 win over Maldives in a closely-fought encounter in their FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 1 second leg tie on Tuesday.

Foysal Fahim scored the winner as Bangladesh registered a 3-2 victory on aggregate to seal a place alongside Australia, Palestine and Lebanon in Group I of the second round.
