Resolute Vietnam make Kim proud

Jeddah: Kim Sang-sik felt immense pride after Vietnam battled to a 1-0 win against Saudi Arabia to top Group A and advance to the quarter-finals of the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ on Monday.

Unlike the matches against Jordan and Kyrgyz Republic where Vietnam produced exciting attacking displays, it was more of a backs-to-the-wall kind of performance against Saudi Arabia with Kim not surprised with how the match turned out.

Jeddah: Vietnam clinched their AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ quarter-final spot with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Saudi Arabia in their final Group A tie on Monday.

The determined display saw Vietnam top the group with maximum points and they will face the Group B runners-up in Friday’s last eight tie while defeat meant elimination for Saudi Arabia.

Jeddah: Head coach Omar Najhi was beaming with pride after seeing his Jordan side fight back to edge Saudi Arabia in a five-goal AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ Group A thriller on Friday.

A first-half Ali Azaizeh brace set the tone for Jordan to take the game from Saudi Arabia, who had taken the lead through Rakan Al Ghamdi.

Musab Al Juwayr brought Saudi Arabia level at the hour mark, only for Mahmoud Khrouba to score the decisive goal 13 minutes later to revive Jordan’s campaign.

The result moved Jordan level on three points with Saudi Arabia, with Vietnam on six following their 2-1 defeat of Kyrgyz Republic in the earlier match. Jordan will meet Kyrgyz Republic on Monday, with Saudi Arabia taking on Vietnam.
