Asian Qualifiers - Group G: Indonesia fight back to hold Thailand

Dubai: Indonesia came from behind twice to secure their first point in the Asian Qualifiers Group G, playing out a 2-2 draw against neighbours Thailand at Al Maktoum Stadium on Thursday.

The draw was a blow to Thailand as three points would have taken them top of the group, with Akira Nishino's men set to play hosts United Arab Emirates - who defeated Malaysia 4-0 - on Monday.

Thailand came flying out of the blocks and were in the lead after just five minutes. Narubadin Weerawatnodom pounced on a loose ball following a corner kick - controlling and rifling the ball into the back of the net to put his side in the lead early on.

Kadek Agung brought Indonesia level in the 39th minute after Syahrian Abimanyu delivered a defence-splitting pass that found Agung through on goal, allowing him to take his time on the ball and apply a power finish into the back of the net.

Just as they did in the first half, Thailand found the back of the net five minutes after the restart. A cross from the left flank was headed by Suphan Thongsong across the mouth of goal for Adisak Kraisorn who headed it home for Thailand’s second goal of the night.

Skipper Evan Dimas levelled the scores once more at the hour-mark. Egy Maulana cut inside on his left and sent an effort from the edge of the box that was deflected into the path of Dimas who kept his cool to sweep home from close range.

Indonesia remain bottom of the group despite collecting their first point, while the draw takes Thailand to nine points, level with the UAE and Malaysia on points.
