Bangladesh begin preparations


Dhaka: Bangladesh kicked off their preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers Round 2 on Saturday.

Head coach Jamie Day has called up 26 players for the nine-day training camp ahead of their Group E campaign which will see Bangladesh facing Qatar, Oman, India and Afghanistan.

The Abahani Limited Dhaka players, however, will report for the camp after the second leg of their 2019 AFC Cup Inter-Zone Semi-final against DPR Korea's 4.25 SC on Wednesday. Abahani won the first leg 4-3.

Bangladesh will play their opening match against Afghanistan on September 10 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Day will name his final squad of 23 players on August 31 and Bangladesh will then move their training camp to Dushanbe where they will play friendly matches against two Tajikistan clubs before facing Afghanistan.

Bangladesh advanced to the second round of the Asian Qualifiers after defeating Laos 1-0 on aggregate in the first preliminary round played in June.
