Bento: We could have done better against DPR Korea

Incheon: Korea Republic head coach Paulo Bento believes his side didn't play to their potential in their Asian Qualifiers Group H tie against DPR Korea on Tuesday.

Korea Republic and DPR Korea played to a goalless draw in Pyongyang, leaving them both on seven points in FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying.

"It wasn't a good match at all. We didn't execute what we'd prepared," Bento said to the media upon arrival at the Incheon International Airport in the early hours of Thursday.

"We didn't have a great first half in particular, and the opponents held us in check. We got better in the second half, but there were too many stoppages of play."

Bento made some tactical changes at the start of the second half as he sent on attacking players.

"We were able to exploit some space between the midfielders and defenders, and had a few good chances," the coach said.

"We couldn't convert those opportunities. But on the defensive end, we didn't have too much trouble. I am just happy that our players competed hard in difficult circumstances."

The draw leaves both teams on seven points, with Korea Republic top of Group H on goal difference.

Korea Republic face Lebanon in Beirut on November 14 while DPR Korea will be away to Turkmenistan.
