Hey delighted as Myanmar get back on track
Mandalay: Myanmar enjoyed a fantastic week, as the Southeast Asians recorded back-to-back wins in Group F of the Asian Qualifiers to place themselves back in contention for a top two finish.
Myanmar followed up Thursday's 4-3 win over Tajikistan with a 1-0 defeat of Mongolia on Tuesday to revive their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifying campaign.
The wins, which followed three consecutive defeats, have to be credited to head coach Antoine Hey, who has steadied the ship after replacing Miodrag Radulovic at the helm last month.

“I’m pleased with today’s result,” said German Hey after Tuesday's hard fought win over a Mongolia side who had defeated Myanmar 1-0 in their opening fixture in September.
“As targeted, we scored six points in two matches. It was a great success for the coaching staff and the players.”

Myanmar's win on Tuesday was courtesy of Hlaing Bo Bo’s 17th minute effort but Hey admitted there is still much room for improvement.
“There weren’t many goals in the match, but the fans were satisfied.
“We had a weak performance at the end, and a second goal would have been better, but we weren’t able to overcome Mongolia. Nonetheless, I am satisfied," said Hey, in his second stint with Myanmar after having parted ways following the 2018 AFF Cup.
Mongolia, meanwhile, sit bottom of Group F after five games with only three points to their name and head coach Michael Weiss admitted his side struggled to make inroads against Myanmar
“There were some mistakes from our side, and there are some great players in Myanmar. Maung Maung Lwin, Aung Thu and Zaw Min Tun’s individual performance made it difficult for us."
Myanmar will look to continue their revival against Japan when the Asian Qualifiers resume on March 26 while Mongolia will play Tajikistan.
