Iraq's Katanec calls up three rookies

Baghdad: Head coach Srečko Katanec has called up three uncapped players to the Iraq squad for their upcoming Asian Qualifiers Group C ties for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

Midfielders Mohammed Ridha, Hassan Hamoud and Sherif Abdul Kadhim will be looking to earn their first international caps when Iraq take on Islamic Republic of Iran and Bahrain on November 14 and 19 respectively.

Goalkeeper Mohammed Saleh and midfielders Ahmed Jalal and Jiloan Hamad were dropped from the squad that defeated Cambodia 4-0 last month.

Iraq, who will play the two matches at home at Basra International Stadium, currently share the Group C top spot on seven points with Bahrain. Iran are third with six points from three matches.

Goalkeepers: Jalal Hassan, Mohammed Hameed, Fahad Talib. Defenders: Ali Adnan, Dhurgham Ismail, Ahmad Ibrahim, Saad Natiq, Ali Faez, Rebin Sulaka, Maitham Jabbar, Alaa Mhawi, Mustafa Mohammed. Midfielders: Ibrahim Bayesh, Hassan Hamoud, Amjad Attwan, Safaa Hadi, Bashar Resan, Mohammed Qasim, Mohammed Ridha, Humam Tariq, Sherif Abdul Kadhim. Forwards: Mohanad Ali, Alaa Abbas, Alaa Abdul Zahra.
