Mumbai City leapfrog ATK Mohun Bagan to claim Indian Super League Winners’ Shield

Goa: Mumbai City overhauled ATK Mohun Bagan in the final match of the Indian Super League’s regular season to win the League Winners’ Shield on Sunday.

Sergio Lobera’s side defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-0 in the 110th and final regular season clash, going above their title rivals by virtue of their superior head-to-head record in the process.

The winners of India’s League Winners’ Shield receives a place in the group stage of the AFC Champions League, meaning Mumbai will have the chance to compete at the top of Asian football for the first time in 2022.

Ankle injury blow for Al Ain’s Shoya Nakajima

Al Ain: An ankle injury suffered in training has ruled out Japanese forward Shoya Nakajima from UAE Pro League outfit Al Ain FC’s immediate plans. 

The 26-year-old Nakajima joined Al Ain on loan from Portuguese champions Porto in January and played twice in the UAE Pro League for the inaugural AFC Champions League winners.

However, he suffered an ankle injury during a training session before the UAE Pro League match against Al Dhafra last week and Nakajima said he is aiming to make a speedy recovery.
