Korea Republic fall to Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Paraguay settle for draw

Abu Dhabi: Korea Republic had to concede to Brazil's superiority as the South Americans ended a run of five games without a win by easing to a 3-0 victory in a friendly in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with Philippe Coutinho scoring the pick of the goals.

Coutinho, currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona, curled a free-kick from 22 yards high into the net to put Brazil 2-0 up after 35 minutes.

Before that he had played a part in the opener, producing some delightful footwork to pick out Renan Lodi, whose cross from the left was headed in from close range by AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

Korea Republic were not in action on Matchday Six of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023, with the East Asians dropping to second in Group H following Turkmenistan's 2-0 win over Sri Lanka 2-0.

Korea Republic are second on goal difference, with Lebanon and DPR Korea - who drew 0-0 - also on eight points.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia played to a 0-0 with Paraguay in a friendly at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia ended their Asian Qualifiers commitments for 2019 with a 3-2 win over Uzbekistan on Thursday but will head into the new year second behind the Central Asians in Group D.

Uzbekistan defeated Palestine on Tuesday to take their points haul to nine, one ahead of Saudi Arabia.
