Li Tie's focus on recovery as China PR kick off training camp

Haikou: China PR will focus on psychical conditioning in the first week of their Asian Qualifiers training camp for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

The squad reported for training on Friday and head coach Li Tie said his objective is to help the players recover after a tough 2020.

Li Tie has called up 27 players for the three-week training camp, which is being held in Haikou.

"All the players have just gone through a special season, they are very tired physically and mentally," said former international Li Tie.

"However, since we don’t really have too much time to prepare for the upcoming (Asian Qualifiers) matches, I had to start this camp this early.

"We will observe some players through this camp and I hope that they can get familiar with our tactical style as soon as possible."

Beijing FC's A Lan was named in the China PR squad for the first time but the Brazilian-born striker is only expected to join the camp in the last few days due to COVID-19 SOPs.

Li Tie said China PR are likely to play two training matches towards the tail-end of the camp, which ends on February 10.

China are second in Group A of the Asian Qualifiers with seven points from four matches, eight behind Syria and are scheduled to play Maldives on March 25 and Guam five days later. They end the second round of the Asian Qualifiers against Philippines (June 7) and Syria (June 15).
