Manila: The Philippine Football Federation has accepted England football great Terry Butcher's decision to step down as head coach of the national team.
Team manager Dan Palami said: "We understand and respect Mr. Terry Butcher's decision not to continue with his role as national team coach of the Philippines."
Butcher, a veteran of three World Cups who has managed in England, Scotland, Wales and Australia, was appointed on June 14.
The decision by the 59-year-old comes as the Azkals head towards their first AFC Asian Cup in January.
Ireland's Scott Cooper, who had been appointed as Butcher's assistant, will be handling the team as they prepare for their upcoming competitions.
Their next major test will be November's AFF Cup, before January's AFC Asian Cup, where the Philippines are grouped with China, South Korea and Kyrgyz Republic in Group C.

Kuala Lumpur: In the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, to be the third highest scoring international footballer in the world is no mean feat, and for an Asian player to be within one goal of Messi’s 65 goals for a national team is a record our latest inductee to the “Asian Icons” list should be proud of.
As he turns 34 today, we celebrate the career of Sunil Chhetri, India’s most capped player and all-time top goalscorer.
