Sanchez names squad for Afghanistan clash

Doha: Head coach Felix Sanchez has named his Qatar squad ahead of the Asian Qualifiers Group E clash against Afghanistan for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.


The AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 winners are unbeaten so far in Group E and lead the standings with 10 points, ahead of second-placed Oman, who are four points adrift.

Qatar began their campaign with a 6-0 win over Afghanistan and were held to a goalless draw by India before posting wins against Bangladesh (2-0) and Oman (2-1).

Before taking on Afghanistan next Tuesday, Sanchez will entertain Singapore in a friendly at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha on Thursday.

The Al Annabi will also be playing in the 24th edition of the Gulf Cup in Doha on November 27 to December 9.

Sanchez, who also doubles up as Qatar’s Under-23 coach, named a 31-man squad for the 2920 AFC U23 Championship, which will be held in Thailand on January 8-26.

The AFC U23 Championship Thailand 2020 will also serve as the qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
