Beirut: Captain Son Heung-min and forward Hwang Ui-jo have apologised for not putting their chances away after Korea Republic were held to a 0-0 draw by Lebanon in their Asian Qualifiers Group H match on Thursday.

It was the East Asians second draw, having been held 0-0 by DPR Korea in Pyongyang last month, but Son and Hwang admitted that the Taeguk Warriors should have taken full points against Lebanon.

"We should've converted our chances but couldn't. I feel responsible for that," said Tottenham Hotspur ace Son to local media.

Played behind closed doors at the Beirut Sport City Stadium, Korea Republic dominated the tie but couldn't breach the Lebanese defensive wall.

Still, they had their chances and Hwang said he was sorry for not making them count.

"We had a brief, players-only meeting after the match, and talked about what we need to do moving forward," Hwang said. "Everyone offered positive ideas. We can't turn back the clock, and so the remaining matches will be that much more important."

Hwang added that Korea Republic should have been more aggressive in their offensive buildups, but had trouble establishing momentum against the Lebanese defensive wall.

"I think we'll continue to have these challenges in the second round," he said. "We'll sit down with our coaching staff and try to come up with solutions."
