Hanoi: Head coach Park Hang-seo has named a 25-man squad he hopes will get Vietnam wins over Malaysia and Indonesia in their Asian Qualifiers Group G campaign.

Vietnam kicked off their bid to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 with a 0-0 result against Thailand in a match which the reigning AFF Cup champions should have won.

With the United Arab Emirates the only non-ASEAN team in the group, Park knows Vietnam need to come through the next two rounds of matches with a solid point-haul and will be counting on his players to do just that against Malaysia at home on Thursday and Indonesia away five days later.

Vietnam defeated Malaysia in the 2018 AFF Cup final but Park, having seen recent matches of their Southeast Asian rivals, knows it will be a tough encounter at Hanoi's My Dinh National Stadium on Thursday.

“My assistant Lee Young Jin watched their match against the UAE last month and I myself watched a clip of that match,” said Park recently to Vietnam media.

“I saw some changes in the team and recognised their front line is really sharp, much more than in the AFF Cup.”

Malaysia will be targeting three points as well as their 3-2 win over Indonesia in Jakarta was followed by the UAE scoring a 2-1 triumph at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last month.

Indonesia are also wounded, having suffered back-to-back defeats to Malaysia and Thailand (0-3), making Vietnam's challenge even tougher.
