Group H: Sydney FC (AUS) 0-0 Ulsan Hyundai FC (KOR)

Sydney: Sydney FC and Ulsan Hyundai were forced to share the spoils after neither side could find the back of the net in a tight 0-0 draw in their opening 2019 AFC Champions League Group H encounter at Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday.

The home side came out of the blocks the stronger of the two teams with Adam Le Fondre having three good chances in the opening 12 minutes, but the English striker couldn’t find the target with any of his efforts.

Ulsan’s first real chance came after 15 minutes when Junior Negrao got his head onto a cross from out wide, but he couldn’t generate any power and his effort was saved easily by Andrew Redmayne.

Le Fondre had another great chance just before the half hour mark when the Ulsan defence turned the ball over on the edge of the area. Looking to chip Oh Seung-hoon, his effort drifted wide as Oh scrambled back in a desperate attempt to make a save.

As the second half began, Steve Corica’s side assumed the ascendency, but despite their domination they struggled to create any real chances, restricted to long range efforts from outside the area, first from Anthony Caceres and then twice from Josh Brillante.

Chances for the visitors were few and far between in the second half, with the best chance falling to Junior Negrao inside the final 15 minutes, but the Brazilian couldn't hit his shot on target.

With a point in their pocket, Ulsan return home to face Shanghai SIPG next week, while Sydney will travel to Japan to face J.League champions Kawasaki Frontale.
