ACL2020: Eyes on continental success for Al Duhail and Sharjah bosses

Doha: Al Duhail SC and Sharjah FC are looking to turn a new page as the Qatari and Emirati champions face-off on Matchday Three of the 2020 AFC Champions League Group C on Tuesday.

Two points separate the two sides with Al Duhail in second place on three points, and Sharjah bottom of the group on one point, and the two sides are eager to get their continental restart underway with a win.

Doha: Group C action in the 2020 AFC Champions League resumes on Tuesday as recently crowned Qatar Stars League champions Al Duhail SC take on reigning UAE Pro League champions Sharjah at Education City Stadium.

Al Duhail kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 home win over Islamic Republic of Iran’s Persepolis FC courtesy of goals from Mario Mandzukic and Edmilson, but then succumbed to a 2-0 away loss to Saudi Pro League side Al Taawoun, leaving them in second place in Group C on three points.

Doha:  Islamic Republic of Iran’s Persepolis FC and Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun FC lock horns at Education City Stadium in the second 2020 AFC Champions League Group C fixture on Tuesday.

Persepolis resume their continental duties on a high, having secured their fourth consecutive Iran Pro League title with a 14-point margin.

Al Taawoun, meanwhile, survived a domestic scare, managing to avoid relegation on the final day of the season, having finished third in 2018-19.

With the action having been halted after two rounds of matches, Al Taawoun sit top of the group with six points, while Al Duhail are second with three. Persepolis, the 2018 runners-up, and Sharjah have a point each.

Doha:  Al Ahli Saudi FC became the first team to reach the 2020 AFC Champions League Round of 16 thanks to a late Marko Marin goal that earned them a 1-0 win over Iraq’s Al Shorta on Matchday Three of Group A on Monday.

Following the AFC’s COVID-19 Sub Committee for AFC Champions League West decision to consider Al Wahda withdrawn and their matches ‘null and void’, Al Ahli found themselves going into the Matchday Three fixture in need of just three points to guarantee a top-two spot in the now three-team Group A.

Doha: A beautiful solo goal from youngster Harib Abdallah Suhail was the difference as Shabab Al Ahli Dubai FC managed their first three points in the 2020 AFC Champions League with a win over Islamic Republic of Iran's Shahr Khodro FC in Group B.

With both teams having lost their opening two fixtures, they set out to get their first points of the campaign ahead of their next game against each other three days later.
