ACL2018 MD1 Toyota Player of the Week: Leroy George

Kuala Lumpur: Melbourne Victory's Leroy George has been named the Toyota Player of the Week for the opening round of the 2018 AFC Champions League.

The flying Dutchman (pictured above), netted a brace against Korean visitors Ulsan Hyundai in their 3-3 draw in their Group F opener at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Monday.

George's  first came from close range after Mislav Orsic had put the K-League in front, he once again cancelled out Ulsan's lead shortly after the half hour following Austrian defender Richard Windbichler's header.

The former FC Utrecht man showed deadly accuracy netting his two goals from two shots on goal while also tallying an assist, and completing 36 passes for a 9.0 rating to top the Toyota standings for the week.

Not far behind was Persepolis' Ali Alipour who put his own stamp on the Matchday One 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan's FC Nasaf with a second half brace following Godwin Mensha's opener to ensure the Iranian champions took all three points.

The IR Iran striker netted his brace from four shots on goal and tallied 27 passes to compile an 8.7 rating.

Tianjin Quanjian's Mi Haolun (below, left) was also on the right side of a 3-0 win, as the Chinese Super League side cruised past Hong Kong's Kitchee courtesy of goals in the first half from Anthony Modeste and Sun Ke.

The defender was credited with an assist, three clearances and also chalked up an impressive 91 passes - the highest on our Toyota Player of the Week rankings for this week - to earn an 8.6 rating.

Karim Boudiaf of Al Duhail is in fourth place this week after scoring two goals for the Qatar Stars League side in their 3-1 win over IR Iran's Zobahan at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.

The 27-year-old midfielder netted from three shots on goal and made 88 passes to be awarded an 8.6 rating.

Completing the top five is Guangzhou Evergrande forward Ricardo Goulart with a third 8.6 rating after scoring in the Chinese champions 1-1 draw with Buriram United at Tianhe Stadium as well as making 50 passes.

Two-goal hero Orsic is next with an 8.3 rating, a score shared by Guangzhou defender Zhang Linpeng, with Al Gharada star Wesley Sneijder rounding out the standings this week after scoring a 8.2 rating.
