ACL2020: Laba happy with Al Ain’s fighting performance

Doha: Striker Kodjo Laba was happy with Al Ain's performance in their exciting 3-3 draw with Qatar’s Al Sadd SC in Group D of the 2020 AFC Champions League on Tuesday.

The two sides shared the points as Al Sadd SC maintained their unbeaten run while Al Ain picked their first point after two consecutive defeats.

Laba, who broke the deadlock at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium just five minutes into the game, was proud of Al Ain's fighting performance in their first competitive match in six months.

“We played very well and fought from the start till the end,” said Man of the Match Laba. “I said before that this match would depend on our fighting spirit and this is what happened.

“We gave it all that we had and the point will give us a boost before the next match. We should focus more and believe in our chances in order to win the next tie.”

Al Ain winger Bandar Al Ahbabi lamented the individual mistakes that cost the UAE side full points.

“This was our first official match in a long time and it was very hard for us,” said Al Ahbabi. “We could have gotten a better result but we failed to do so because we made mistakes.

“We must fix these mistakes because we have a good chance. All the matches are like a final for us and we must concentrate in order to win them all."
