Tampines vs Bali 11

Singapore: Stefano Lilipaly and Sidik Saimima's extra-time strikes gave Indonesia's Bali United a 5-3 win over Tampines Rovers of Singapore in their 2020 AFC Champions League Preliminary Stage 1 tie at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday.

Melvin Platje's first-half double gave Bali United a two-goal cushion before Boris Kopitovic pulled one back for Tampines Rovers going into the break.

The Singapore side came out fighting in the second half to level the score before taking the lead but Bali forced the game into extra-time after levelling the tie eight minutes before the end and Lilipaly and Saimima finished the job in extra-time to send Bali United through to the Preliminary Stage Two.

Bali United got off to a bright start, taking the lead in the eighth minute as Platje fired a long-range effort which caught Rovers goalkeeper Zulfairuuz Rudy off guard.

The 31-year-old Dutchman doubled his tally five minutes later when he combined with Lilipaly before firing a low drive from inside the box.

Rovers, however, clawed their way back into the game when Kopitovic did well to lose his marker on the right flank before beating two players inside the danger area and slotting the ball home in the 43rd minute.

Kadir Yahaya’s men continued to pressure the Bali United defence in the second half and levelled the proceedings in the 53rd minute after Zehrudin Mehmedovic’s through ball found Jordan Webb, who made no mistake from close range.

Bali United suffered a setback when they conceded an own goal 15 minutes later after Rahmat Syamsuddin turned the ball into his own net following Kopitovic's cross.

Syamsuddin, however, atoned for his mistake by equalising for Bali United after collecting Lilipaly’s through pass before striking the ball past Zulfairuuz in the 82nd minute.

Lilipaly then put Bali United ahead 10 minutes into extra time by finishing off a good team build-up with his sublime finish from inside the box and Saimima put the icing on the cake in the 115th minute for a 5-3 victory.

Bali United will next face Australia's Melbourne Victory in the Preliminary Stage Two on January 21 with the winners advancing to the Play-off round against Japan's Kashima Antlers on January 28.

The winners of the Play-off will advance to Group E alongside Beijing FC of China PR, Thailand's Chiangrai United and another team from the qualifying stages.
