Preview MD3 - Group G: Johor Darul Ta'zim (MAS) vs Suwon Samsung Bluewings (KOR)

Iskandar Puteri: Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) get set to kick off a new era in the club's history with their first AFC Champions League tie in the new Sultan Ibrahim Stadium when they host Korea Republic's Suwon Samsung Bluewings in Johor on Tuesday.

Both sides have suffered defeats to Japan’s Vissel Kobe in their opening Group G ties, with JDT going down 5-1 on the opening day and Suwon conceding late to lose 1-0 two weeks ago.

In what is sure to be a packed venue in southern Malaysia, JDT – who defeated Kedah 1-0 in the Charity Shield on Friday – will look to continue their impressive home form from their debut campaign in 2019 as both sides aim to get their first points on the board.

In terms of recent results, though, neither team has experienced the best of form on the Continent. JDT have lost five of their seven games in the AFC Champions League, while Suwon have lost three and won none of their last four in Asia.

Group G - MD1: Vissel Kobe 5-1 Johor Darul Ta'zim

The Koreans last endured a longer run without a win in the competition back in 2013; they went six games without picking up three points, drawing four and losing twice.

The last time JDT faced Korean opposition at home, it was in their second game of the 2019 edition. The fixture proved to be a memorable occasion as Diogo's 68th-minute penalty ensured they shared a 1-1 draw with Gyeongnam FC and secured their maiden point in the AFC Champions League.

Group G - MD2: Suwon Samsung Bluewings 0-1 Vissel Kobe

The 2019 K League 1 Top Scorer Adam Taggart was unable to make his mark in his first Continental outing with Suwon on Matchday One, but the Australian forward remains the most likely threat for the visitors.

JDT's star Safawi Rasid was on target from the spot in the defeat in Kobe and the forward, who turns 23 on Thursday, will be hoping for an early birthday present at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
