Doha: Yoon Bit-garam's phenomenal form in the 2020 AFC Champions League saw the Ulsan Hyundai FC midfielder win the Most Valuable Player award following the conclusion of the final at the Al Janoub Stadium on Saturday.

Yoon played a pivotal role in Ulsan Hyundai winning the trophy for a second time as he contributed four goals and marshalled the engine room superbly as the Korea Republic side lifted the AFC Champions League trophy with a 2-1 win over Islamic Republic of Iran's Persepolis FC in the final.

"This is the happiest moment of my career and the most meaningful day in my life. It was very difficult because we conceded the goal first, but we tried to chase it back as soon as possible and we tried to show our energy to score," said Yoon.

"We proved we are eager to win this title. We are very happy with the fact that we could lift the trophy. I would like to thank our fans who are following us in Korea even though it is really late now in Korea. I would like to thank the manager who gave me a lot of trust from the start of the season."

Final: Persepolis FC 1-2 Ulsan Hyundai FC

Yoon, 30, admitted that going behind shook Ulsan Hyundai, especially as they had dominated possession.

"We were a bit down after conceding but after Junior scored the first goal, we went into the break with renewed energy. The coach analysed and explained to us how we have to tackle the second half. For us as players, we just wanted to follow the coach’s instructions and be disciplined and that was the secret to winning the game.

'Persepolis played a lot of long balls into the box but we tried to defend as a team and were able to keep them at bay," said Yoon.

Yoon paid tribute to his teammates, saying he would not have enjoyed such a successful tournament if not for them.

"I could not have won this award without my teammates. Everyone played their role, we came together as a team and wanted to enjoy our football.

"I cannot be fully satisfied with my performance here; I always have to push myself to be better and better and go higher. I would like to dedicate the award to my teammates who helped me and we tried to enjoy the competition together."
