2019 Final, 1st Leg – Toyota Player of the Week: Mohammed Al Burayk
Kuala Lumpur: Mohammed Al Burayk has been named as the Toyota Player of the Week for the first leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League final after the full-back put in a standout display in Al Hilal’s 1-0 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds at Riyadh’s King Saud University Stadium.
Appearing in his second final in three years, Al Burayk delivered a perfect cross for Andre Carrillo to head home the only goal of the game on the hour mark as the hosts ensured they will start the second leg in Saitama with a slender advantage.
Al Burayk, who was also the Toyota Player of the Week for the second leg of the final two years ago, created two chances for his teammates and made 61 successful passes.
The Saudi Arabia international scored a rating of 8.2 and the clean sheet means, unlike in 2017, they travel to Japan without having conceded an away goal.
Peruvian Andre Carrillo (below) came next on the list after the his goal proved the difference between the two sides, although he can also point to a stellar all-round performance.
The winger was a constant thorn in the Urawa side as he created more chances (4) than any other player on the pitch as well as completing the most dribbles (4) as he tormented the J.League backline.
Carrillo, who was appearing in his first AFC Champions League final, had two shots on goal and completed 41 passes across the 90 minutes as he scored a rating of 8.1.
Third in the Toyota Player of the Week was Al Hilal’s Abdullah Otayf (below), who, along with midfield partner Salman Al Faraj, dictated the play in the centre of the park.
The 27-year-old made more successful passes (103) than any other player from the two sides, while his 114 touches was second only to Al Faraj.
Another player who was part of the 2017 defeat, Otayf showed his appetite for making up for the heartbreak of losing out at the last and scored a 7.6 rating.
Next on the list came Al Hilal’s other full-back, Yasser Al Shahrani, who was playing in his third AFC Champions League final after losing out in 2014 and 2017. The left-sided player, who was rated at 7.2, made 54 successful passes as he once again showed his threat as an attacking force.
Completing the Toyota Player of the Week top five is Al Hilal defender Ali Al Bulayhi, who scored a rating of 7.0 and came within inches of opening the scoring in the first half.
Urawa goalkeeper Haruki Fukushima (6.8) came sixth after the AFC Champions League debutant pulled off a string of excellent saves in the first half, while Al Hilal defender Jang Hyun-soo (6.7) and goalkeeper Abdullah Al Mayouf (6.5) round off this week’s top eight.
