2019 Final, 2nd Leg – Toyota Player of the Week: Salem Al Dawsari
Kuala Lumpur: Salem Al Dawsari has been named as the Toyota Player of the Week for the second leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League final after the winger scored the opener in Al Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds that secured the Continental title for the Saudi side.
It was a moment of sweet redemption for Al Dawsari, who had been sent off in the final two years ago against the same opponents. The Saudi Arabia international clipped home on 74 minutes from close range after smart inter-play from Salman Al Faraj and Sebastian Giovinco.
As well as his goal, Al Dawsari had four shots on target, created one chance for his teammates and made 25 successful passe to earn a 9.4 rating.
As he was in the first leg, Peruvian Andre Carrillo (below) comes next on the list after another impressive performance from the dynamic wide froward.
Once again, Carrillo dominated the right flank creating four chances for teammates, winning three fouls and registering an assist for Al Hilal's second goal when Bafetimbi Gomis finished off a move late in injury time.
The South American also had one shot on goal and completed 31 passes across the 90 minutes as he scored a rating of 8.0.
Third in the Toyota Player of the Week was Al Hilal’s goalkeeper Abdullah Al Mayoof (below), who kept a second consecutive cleansheet as Al Hilal dominated Urawa defensively as well as offensively.
The 32-year-old made some vital contributions including two saves, with a particularly impressive block against Daiki Hashioka in the first half that could have changed the tie. The custodian receives a 7.4 rating.
Next on the list came Al Hilal’s other goalscorer on the night, Bafetimbi Gomis. The French forward had a night to remember as he collected the tournament's MVP and Top Scorer award. His 11th goal of the campaign helped him to a 7.3 rating.
Completing the Toyota Player of the Week top five is Al Hilal full-back Mohammed Al Burayk, who scored a rating of 6.9 to follow up on his Toyota Player of the Week-winning performance in the first leg.
Urawa goalkeeper Shusaku Nishikawa (6.7) came sixth having returned to the side from suspension in the first leg, while Al Hilal midfielder Abdullah Otayf (6.6) and defender Ali Al Bulayhi (6.3) round off the top eight.
