Arad: Al Jazeera hope to take home a positive result in the first leg against Syria’s Al Jaish on Tuesday as the Jordanians pursue a second consecutive appearance in the AFC Cup West Zonal Final.
Inaugural AFC Cup winners in 2004, Al Jaish reached the quarter-final stage in 2015 and 2016, but since the introduction of the Zonal knock-out stages in 2017, the Syrians have not progressed past the group stage.

Al Jaish and Al Jazeera met in the 2015 AFC Cup Round of 16. The single-legged tie took place in Irbid and was settled in Al Jaish’s favour thanks to a last-minute penalty kick from Mohammad Sharifah.
Since that defeat, Al Jazeera contested the 2018 AFC Cup and reached the West Zonal finals, their best result in the competition, but were knocked-out by eventual winners Air Force Club of Iraq.
This year, Al Jazeera breezed through the group stage, collecting 16 points; more than any other team in the competition, while scoring 13 goals; the highest in the West groups and conceding just two goals. The Jordanian side will miss the services of striker Mahmoud Za’atra whose contract with the club expired at the end of May.
