AFC Cup Bracket Challenge – Johor Darul Ta'zim's Safawi Rasid finishes third


Kuala Lumpur: Johor Darul Ta'zim's Safawi Rasid has emerged third in the AFC Cup Bracket Challenge after comfortably seeing off the challenge of Hanoi FC's Nguyen Quang Hai.

In a showdown between arguably the biggest talents in their respective countries, Malaysian Safawi - currently on loan at Portuguese side Portimonense - polled 70 percent of the votes against Vietnamese sensation Quang Hai.

After getting past Al Faisaly's Khalil Bani Atiyah, Al Shorta's Oday Al Jafal and Kitchee SC's Lam Ka Wai, Safawi's thunderbolt from 2018 ultimately fell at the semi-final stage to South China AA's Chan Siu Ki.

Quang Hai's perfectly executed free-kick from 2019, meanwhile, saw off 4.25 SC's An Il-bom, FC Istiklol's Manuchehr Dzhalilov and East Bengal's Mehtab Hossain before being outvoted by New Radiant's Ali Ashfaq in the semi-final.

Dead-ball specialist Nguyen Quang Hai was at his best against Turkmenistan's Altyn Asyr in the 2019 Inter-Zone semi-final first leg, scoring twice in a 3-2 victory. The Hanoi native has forged a reputation for netting exquisite free-kicks and here was another as he left the goalkeeper flat-footed after curling round the wall from 20 yards to tie the score at 1-1.
