Amman: Defender Mohamed Al Banna said Muharraq Club deserved the win against Lebanon's Al Ansar in their 2021 AFC Cup tie on Thursday, a result which saw the Bahrain side advance to the West Zonal Semi-finals as Group B winners.
Muharraq came from a goal down to defeat Al Ansar 3-1 at the King Abdullah International Stadium thanks to goals from Sanad Saleh, Ismail Abdullatif and Tiago Real.
Muharraq, the 2008 AFC Cup winners, advanced to the West Zonal semi-finals after finishing on six points, the same with Al Salt but ahead on head-to-head after having beaten the Jordanian side 1-0 in their earlier encounter.

Al Banna admitted that Muharraq Club struggled in the initial stages against Al Ansar but persevered in the end.
“We had a difficult start to the match as we conceded an early goal which made things difficult for us,” said the 31-year-old Al Banna.
“However, we came back strongly and pushed forward which resulted in our best performance of the tournament. In fact, we managed to score three goals and we could have added more.
“It was a deserved victory at the end of the day for us and we achieved what is important. We followed the instructions of our coach very well in the match. We made a mistake early on and that gave Al Ansar the edge but at the end of the day, we won and this is the most important thing for us.”
Al Muharraq will face 2019 champions Al Ahed of Lebanon in the West Zonal semi-finals while Jordan's Al Salt will play Kuwait SC.
