Beirut: Lebanon’s Al Ahed announced on Tuesday that Spain’s Daniel Gimenez has replaced Bassem Marmar as head coach of the 2019 AFC Cup champions.
The 36-year-old Gimenez an assistant to Marmar, who recently left the Lebanese champions to join Kuwait Premier League giants Al Arabi.

Born in Barcelona, Gimenez coached several youth teams in Bilbao and his home city before becoming a coach at the FC Barcelona Academy. He also coached fourth division outfit CD Alegría in 2014.
He moved to Lebanon in 2016, coaching the youth teams of Salam Zgharta before joining the technical staff of Al Ahed where he was also a supervisor of the youth teams.
Gimenez's immediate task will be to spearhead Al Ahed's defence of the AFC Cup, with the Lebanese side third in Group A after a win and a defeat.
