Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Hanoi: Vietnam's Hanoi FC kicked off their 2019 AFC Cup Group F campaign in spectacular fashion, beating Naga World of Cambodia 10-0 on Tuesday.

Hanoi took the lead in spectacular style after just six minutes. Following a corner, the ball was fed back to Do Duy Manh, who smashed a shot from 30 yards in off the underside of the bar.

It didn’t take long for the hosts to add a second. Nguyen Quang Hai’s backheel found its way to Nguyen Van Dung on the left and his low cross was tapped in by Ganiyu Oseni.

In the 17th minute, Oseni turned sharply and bulleted a shot towards the top corner but Sou Yaty pushed the ball wide. From the resulting corner, the ball dropped at the far post and Naga World defender Nhim Sovannara succeeded only in directing the ball towards his own goal and Leng Makara sliced his clearance into the net to put Hanoi 3-0 up.

With 26 minutes gone, a mistake from Hanoi almost allowed the Cambodian side to pull one back. Truong Van Thai Quy was short with a headed back pass and Amir Gurbani’s strike brought out a fine save from Nguyen Van Cong.

Things got worse again for the visitors in the 44th minute. Leng Makara’s foul on Nguyen Van Quyet earned the home side a penalty and the Hanoi skipper took the spot-kick himself to make it 4-0 at half-time.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Hanoi added a fifth as Do Hung Dung rifled low into the corner from the edge of the box.

In the 68th minute, Oseni controlled a cross from the right with one touch and then drilled a shot into the corner from 14 yards.

Hanoi weren’t finished yet and Nguyen Van Dung picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and bulleted a left-footed shot in off the underside of the bar.

Oseni then completed his hat-trick with 15 minutes remaining with a shot across the keeper. He soon added his fourth as he slotted home on the rebound after Pham Duc Huy’s shot came off the post.

And Ngan Van Dai rounded off the scoring with a close-range header to make it 10-0 and complete Naga World’s humiliation.

Hanoi FC will hope to keep up the momentum when they travel to Singapore to face Tampines Rovers on Matchday Two. Naga World, meanwhile, will be aiming for a much better performance and result when they host Yangon United on March 12th.
