Group H: Kaya FC-Iloilo salvage draw with PSM Makassar

Jakarta: Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines came back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw with 10-man PSM Makassar of Indonesia in Group H of the 2020 AFC Cup on Tuesday.

PSM Makassar, having defeated Shan United 3-1 on Matchday Two, were hoping to repeat their success against Kaya at the Madya Stadium.

The home team, however, suffered a major setback after Dedy Gusmawan was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Takumi Uesato in the 10th minute.

Kaya immediately seized the initiative but despite being a man down, it was PSM Makassar who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute.

A quick counter-attack that began from the midfield saw Osas Saha collect Yakob Sayuri’s through pass, surge down the middle before beating Kaya goalkeeper Louie Casas.

Kaya’s dominance continued but they were denied on multiple occasions by PSM Makassar custodian Hilman Syah.

The breather clearly did wonders for Kaya, as just five minutes into the second half, substitute Arnel Amita curled in a superb cross with Eric Giganto rising highest to head home the equaliser.

Sayuri came close in the 70th minute but his attempt just went wide of the left post.

Two minutes later, Sayuri and Saha teamed up but the advancing Casas gave no space for the Nigerian-born Indonesian to finish.

The two teams will meet again on April 15 in Manila with Kaya on five points after three matches and Makassar one behind.
