Hanoi FC claim V.League 1 title

Ho Chi Minh City: Hanoi FC claimed the 2019 V.League 1 title on Thursday to hand themselves a major psychological boost ahead of next week’s AFC Cup Inter-Zone Final meeting with DPR Korea’s 4.25 SC.

With two games still to play, Vietnamese heavyweights Hanoi secured an unassailable lead at the top of the standings thanks to Nguyen Than Chung’s goal in a narrow 1-0 victory away at Song Lam Nghe An.

The win saw Hanoi capture an impressive fifth top-flight crown following previous successes in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2018.

Hanoi’s domestic glory comes ahead of the first leg of their eagerly anticipated Continental showdown with 4.25, a game Chu Dinh Nghiem’s charges will host at their Hang Day Stadium home on Wednesday.

Hanoi are currently in the midst of their best-ever AFC Cup campaign, while their East Asian opponents return to the Inter-Zone Final for a second successive season.

The Inter-Zone Final’s second leg will be played in Pyongyang on October 2.
