Matchday Five - Group F: Boeung Ket 0-4 Ceres Negros
Phnom Penh: A Bienvenido Maranon hat-trick saw Ceres Negros of the Philippines move to within a point of the AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals on Wednesday, as they held on to top spot in Group F with a 4-0 win over Cambodia’s Boeung Ket FC.
Maranon opened the scoring at Phnom Penh National Olympic Stadium from just inside the area after 36 minutes, and two minutes later the Spaniard doubled Ceres Negros’ lead, this time making no mistake after OJ Porteria had teed him up.
Porteria was the provider again in the 69th minute, sending a ball in from the right which Maranon stabbed home from close range after showing some fancy footwork to throw off Boeung Ket goalkeeper Sou Yaty.
Substitute Takumi Uesato added the gloss with six minutes to play, drilling home a powerful drive 12 minutes after his introduction.
The win kept Ceres Negros three points clear of Singapore’s Home United at the top of the group on 13 points, while Boeung Ket remain bottom and tied on three points with Shan United of Myanmar.
Both sides' final group games come on April 25, when Ceres Negros host second-placed Home United and Boeung Ket travel to Yangon to take on Shan United.
