Matchday Five - Group F: Home United FC 3-2 Shan United FC

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Singapore: A spectacular volley from Shahril Ishak ensured Home United earned an entertaining 3-2 win over Shan United to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive going into the final match.

The home side came into the match sitting second in Group F behind Ceres-Negros, but they fell behind early when Win Hein Phyo’s cross was tapped in by Zin Min Tun after just nine minutes.

Aidil Sharin’s men drew level 10 minutes later in somewhat fortuitous circumstances. Shan United’s clearance of a corner only went as far as Faizal Roslan, who looped the ball back into the box where Win Min Htut’s attempted goal line clearance with his head found its way into the back of his own net.

The home side put the ball in the back of the net again three minutes later, only to see it ruled out for offside.

They wouldn’t have to wait long for their second, however, as Sirini Camara’s cross across the six yard box was met by Song Ui-young who made no mistake with an open net in front of him.

It was a lead they would give up just two minutes later when Christopher Chizoba muscled his way into the box to finish neatly past Rudy Khairullah and draw the visitors level.

The highlight of the night came five minutes before the half time break when Shahril Ishak scored a contender for goal of the year with a spectacular scissor kick volley to restore Home United’s lead.

Neither side could add to their tally in the second half, which means Home United now face a crucial match in two weeks against top-of-the-group Ceres-Negros – a match that will determine whether they progress to the ASEAN Zonal Semi Finals.

Shan United, already eliminated coming into this match, play their final match at home against Cambodia’s Boeung Ket.
