Yangon: Boeung Ket FC of Cambodia romped to a 4-1 win over Myanmar's Shan United in the 2018 AFC Cup on Wednesday, leapfrogging the Myanmar side in the process to finish third in Group F.
It took just 11 minutes for the visitors to take the lead at Thuwunna Stadium, as Maicon beat the offside trap to meet a Samuel Ajayi pass and slot home, and Julius Oiboh doubled Boeung Ket’s advantage in the 25th minute, dribbling in from the left and leaving Htike Htike Aung in his wake before tucking beyond goalkeeper Myo Min Latt.
Ajayi made it 3-0 in the 47th minute, and things went from bad to worse for Shan United two minutes later as Phyo Paing Soe was sent off after a foul on Ajayi as the last man.
Maicon added a fourth for Boeung Ket in the 63rd minute, before Zin Min Tun pulled a consolation back for the hosts 15 minutes later after being teed up by substitute Christopher Chizoba.
That was too little too late to have an effect on the result, however, leaving Shan United at the bottom of the group on three points and Boeung Ket third on six.
Elsewhere, Singapore’s Home United progressed to the Zonal Semi-finals after beating Ceres Negros 2-0 to overtake the Filipino side in first place by virtue of their head-to-head record.
