Matchday Two - Group A: Al Jazeera 1-0 Malkiya Club

Monday, February 26, 2018

Amman: Al Jazeera sealed a hard-fought 1-0 victory at home over Bahrain’s Malkiya Club on Matchday Two of their AFC Cup Group A tie on Monday.

The hosts came within a whisker of taking the lead within 10 minutes after Oday Al Jafal rose highest to meet Feras Shilbaya’s cross from the right flank, but his header ended inches off the upright.

The first half continued with the home side dominating but failing to break down the Bahrainis. After the restart, Suleiman Abu Zama thought he had finally given his side the lead after Shilbaya’s shot from a tight angle was parried by the goalkeeper onto the path of Abu Zama who saw his volleyed effort ricochet off the cross bar before being cleared for a corner kick.

Musa Al Taamari’s second goal of the campaign finally broke the deadlock for Al Jazeera at the hour mark. The striker’s persistence paid off as he saw his attempt from Abdullah Al Attar’s cross saved by goalkeeper Abdulkarim Fardan before he followed through to find the back of the net.

Al Jazeera travel to Oman next to face Al Suwaiq while Malkiya play hosts to reigning champions Air Force on Matchday Three next week.
