Manama: Al Ahed moved to the top of Group B with a 1-0 away win over Bahrain’s Manama Club on Matchday Two of the AFC Cup on Monday.
The hosts' most dangerous chance of the first half came in the final minute before the break when Mohamed Issa headed Erick Luis’ free-kick just wide of Mehdi Khalil’s goal.
Zreik scored the only goal of the match in the 70th minute after Mohammed Haidar dispossessed the defence and supplied a through pass for the No 11, who sent a low strike with his left foot that nestled into the bottom corner.
Al Ahed were handed a chance to double their lead in the final minute of regular time when Issa brought down Haidar inside the box, prompting the referee to point to the penalty spot. Manama goalkeeper Redha Bahram stretched to his right to parry Nour Mansour’s spot-kick, keeping the score at 1-0.
Manama travel to Iraq to face Al Zawraa on Matchday Three next week, while Al Ahed host Syria’s Al Jaish.
