Ashgabat: Vahyt Orazsahedov insists Altyn Asyr have set their sights on winning the AFC Cup after the Turkmen side’s 2-0 victory over India’s JSW Bengaluru in the second leg of the Inter-Zone semi-final on Wednesday secured a 5-2 aggregate victory and a place in the Inter-Zone final against DPR Korea's 4.25 SC.

Altyn Asyr went into the second leg as favourites after winning 3-2 in India a week previously in a game that saw them race into a 3-0 lead before 2016 runners-up Bengaluru gave themselves hope ahead of the reverse meeting by pulling two back in the final 30 minutes.

Orazsahedov, who netted twice in the first leg, added the second on Wednesday to all but kill the tie off and take his tally to three goals in two games for the Ashgabat club since the forward returned from a spell in Azerbaijan.

“I want to thank all my teammates and staff at the club because we gave everything to win this match,” said Orazsahedov, who has also had stints in Russia, Moldova and Turkey.

“I’d also like to thank all the fans who supported us and helped us qualify for the next match. In football, you never know who the winners will be but we hope to be the winners of this competition.

“We must now be ready for the next game, which our coaches will help us prepare for.”

Since being knocked out in the AFC Cup preliminary round in 2015, Altyn Asyr have shown steady improvement, progressing to the group stage in 2016 and then coming within a game of qualifying for the knockout rounds last year.

Needing a win in their final Group D game this year, Mihail Titov scored in the seventh minute of added time to defeat Tajikistan’s FC Istiklol 3-2 to claim a place in the Inter-Zone semi-finals.

Orazsahedov joined in the summer months and started with a bang, scoring Alytn Asyr’s first and third goals away at Bengaluru.

And, after top scorer Altymyray Annadurdyyev had opened the scoring in the 50th minute at Kopetdag Stadium, the new recruit tapped home just before the hour-mark after Mekan Saparov’s long-range shot had rebounded off the post.

That confirmed a place in the Inter-Zone final and Orazsahedov and Altyn Asyr are now eyeing more glory.
