Al Wehdat-Semi Preview

Amman: Jordan's Al Wehdat welcome Lebanon's Al Ahed to King Abdullah II Stadium in the first leg of the 2019 AFC Cup West Zonal Semi-finals on Monday.

The two sides met in the 2016 AFC Cup group stage and exchanged wins with the same results. Al Ahed won 3-2 in Beirut in Matchday Two, while Al Wehdat took revenge on Matchday Six in Amman.

Al Ahed's Ahmed Zreik and Al Wehdat's Baha Faisal both scored in each of the two fixtures, and the two players will again be at the heart of their respective sides' attacking play.

Al Wehdat are back in the AFC Cup having missed on the 2018 edition. Their previous campaign saw them reach the zonal semi-finals in 2017, before bowing out to Syria's Al Wehda 4-2 on aggregate.

AFC Cup perennials since their debut in 2006, Al Wehdat's best result in the competition is reaching the last four on three occasions; 2006, 2007 and 2011.

Despite topping their AFC Cup group, Al Wehdat parted ways with coach Kais Al Yaqoubi and brought club legend Abdullah Abu Zema to replace him. The Al Ahed clash will be the former striker's official debut in the dugout.

Al Ahed on the other side have dominated the domestic league in Lebanon, winning the title three times on the trot.

On the continent, they have four appearances in the knock-out stages in their eight attempts, the last of which came last year when they were on the receiving end of a 5-3 aggregate loss at the hands of eventual champions Air Force Club.
